Have you heard about Annecy?! After Lyon and Rennes we are taking you to another beautiful and romantic town in the Rhone-Alpes region of southeast France. Also called the “Venice of the Alps“, this picturesque representation comes from its two canals and the river lying through the old city. With the proximity of the fresh and a wonderful azure color lake, winter resorts and the renovation of its castle, Annecy has become a must-see destination of France.
11a.m First you need some (good) food
Let’s brunch at Sur Les Pas De La Petite Botte – which is a cute cozy café with a great choice of hot and cold beverages as well as homemade goodies from muffins to savory cakes and flans. This is also a nice place to catch up on a travel book or just unwind and chat. Before leaving, grab a last croissant and hit the pavement!
1p.m Visit the old town
This is known as the Venice of the Alps, the old town is so charming, mixing half-timbered buildings with little canals. The bridges, lake, canals and old boats are all put together in one magical spot – you will love it! It is one of the cutest places to visit in Annecy. Throughout this pedestrian complex, you will find many nice shops, cafes, restaurants and ice-cream shops in case you’re still craving something sweet. If it’s a sunny Thursday, don’t pass up the market where all local farmers gather; it’s really worth a look!
3p.m Go check out the Palais de l’ile
Don’t miss the most well-known and photographed spot of Annecy called the Palais de l’ile. It stands in the old town where the river surrounds it and make the whole village as Venice. This historical building definitely deserves a look and stay to enjoy the great landscape, tranquility, and simplicity.
4p.m Relax at the the lake
It is simply stunning. It has something for everyone, whether it’s just to kick back and enjoy its majesty, to take part in any number of various waterborne activities or hiking around its edge. Each minute spent will leave you wanting more!
8p.m. Dinner at the luxurious restaurant 1er Mets
Yes, you need a reservation! Like any other very good restaurant, you better call before showing up. No English menu, however English speaking staff. Owned by a French young couple from the region, you’ll find great contemporary French cuisine – everything cooked to precision, traditional dishes with a little touch of difference e.g. the coconut milk and parsnip emulsion as an amuse bouche.
End this wonderful day in Annecy by walking by the town hall that is very close and admire it under the moonlight.
