Everyone knows that France has some of the best foods in the world!
From the City of lights to the tiny village, you’ll always find delicious food in France. I’ve decided to share with you some of my favorite picks of best cheap eats in my home country. And who doesn’t love yummy cheap food?!
The classic Jambon-Beurre Baguette
This sandwich is in every French bakery. It is so easy but so good when made with quality ingredients! And here are the 2 secrets use salted butter and add cornichons for the texture and taste!
The mouthwatering Crepes
How could anyone live without Crepes?! They are easy to make from scratch (family recipe here) and so versatile. Usually, I make Crepes one every other week, because it’s a great work/school lunch. My favorite savory option is ham and cheese, but I can’t get enough of Nutella crepes!
The mind-blowing Moules-Frites
A simple and a cheap food, adopted from our Belgian neighbors. The food consists of cooked mussels and French fries served in separate places. You usually can choose from a large list of seasoning and sauces. What I love is dipping the fries in the cooking juices, it has the best and deepest flavor!
The morning staple: Le Croissant
Every bakery carries Croissants, but not all of them are handmade. Flaky, buttery, light, it’s the best combo to start the day. Add a coffee to this and you’ve got me!
And last but not least, the one and only French Macaron
Not all Macarons are created equal! My personal favorite is the Orange Blossom from Ladurée, but hey I would not say no to Pierre Hermé, one of the best pastry chefs in the world.
Now it’s your turn, tell me your favorite cheap eats in the comment below!
Bon Appétit!
Zoé Capdevila
She is the co-founder of Bon Appétit Box. She was born & raised in Montpellier in the South of France and then spent 5 years exploring the culinary offerings of Paris. In her free time, she loves to walk on the beach watching the sea scenery in every season. When she comes back to France, her favorite thing is to sit outside with friends and enjoy some cheese (she’s a fan of Roquefort!) with a glass of red wine of course!
