Champagne Region at a glance

Gaining the World Heritage status from Unesco in 2015, the Champagne region in France is not one to be missed. Nestled between Paris and Belgium, this marvelous province provides the perfect landscape and temperature for producing wine grapes. Visitors can get lost in the magnificent vineyards, take tours of the many wine cellars, or unwind by the lakes with a glass of delectable champagne.

Champagne is arguably the finest thing in the world, and rightfully so. The process of producing a bottle of this exquisite beverage usually requires harvesting 3 different types of grapes, two rounds of fermentation followed by at least 15 months of aging (as required by law). This unmatched procedure is why only bubbly from this region can carry the champagne label legally.

One city in particular has earned the prestige of being the worldwide champagne capital: Reims. Home to many world famous wine cellars, the chalky soil and temperate climate in Reims makes it the ideal location for growing Pinot Noir grapes.

In addition to producing intricate beverages, Reims is also known for its famous pink biscuit, a delicacy dating back to the 16th century. In 1756, Maison Fossier, the oldest French cookie factory and once an official supplier to the king, took over the production house of these baked goods to continue making quality confectionery. Fossier assortments include the delicious flaky Palmier.

There are 15,700 growers and 300 champagne houses in the region, providing you with plenty to discover on your visit. Take a drive down the wine trails to enjoy a spectacular view of the vineyards and the Champagne region all in one, or broaden your knowledge by touring the champagne cellars including the prestigious Louis Roederer Champagne House. Either way, you are guaranteed a delightful trip!

Bon voyage!
