5 French Winter Foods

Posted by Lifestyle Blogger on

I’m not too fond of winter time. Aside from the holidays, it’s all pretty drab and gloomy. Luckily, there’s always one thing that instantly cheers me up: food. Specifically winter food. In France, winter is the season to enjoy hearty meals that can warm up any snowy day tout de suite. Here are my 5 top picks for French winter foods.

Raclette
Raclette is a firm cheese made from cow’s milk, specially designed to melt on a grill with coupelles (small pan), poured over potatoes and served with charcuterie & cornichons. This hearty meal is usually enjoyed at dinner with family, friends and of course, a white wine!

Onion Soup
I think soup in general is a staple for winters; but, onion soup from France is to die for. Topped with mounds of melted cheese and caramelized onion, this simple yet delicious fusion cannot be overlooked. Check out our easy recipe here!

Gratin Dauphinois
Whoever said that good things come in small packages must have been inspired by the dish Gratin Dauphinois- A glorious combination of potatoes, cream and garlic served straight from the oven. What else do you need to keep warm?

Boeuf Bourguignon
Who says you can’t have have the best of both worlds? This dish combines some of our favorites: beef & red wine to create a rich and creamy entree that tastes even better on the second day!

Hachis Parmentier
Dubbed the French Shepherd’s Pie, this delicious yet easy-to-make dish has only two main ingredients;mashed potatoes and ground beef, layered with -you guessed it- cheese.

And you, what’s your best comfort food to face winter?
