The Lavandou: A Honey Lavender Cocktail

Posted by Lifestyle Blogger on

I’m obsessed with lavender!  From devouring lavender ice cream to pouring lavender-scented bleach in my laundry–and everything in between–I guess it’s safe to say I’m smitten.  It’s even my favorite color!

I visited Croatia in June and they were selling lavender honey on every other corner. Knowing I had some waiting for me at home in California, I neglected to indulge in my lavender ideé fixe.

When I’m craving something sweet I love to use lavender honey because it’s much healthier than most desserts. Honey has so many health benefits and it’s also the most nutritious sugar substitute! I usually drizzle it over yogurt mixed with some fruit. Sometimes I spread cream cheese on toast and top it off with a little lavender honey, too!  Recently, I’ve wanted to discover more ways to use lavender.

After doing some research, I discovered a man named Romee de Goriainoff. He was a french bartender who must’ve loved lavender, too. Inspired by the many lavish fields of lavender in the South of France, he created a delicious cocktail: The Lavandou.

If I’m not working on Friday nights, I love to enjoy a good craft cocktail. Sometimes, we go out and other times my girlfriends and I experiment at home. This past Friday, we decided to try making a cocktail with the lavender honey.

The deep fruity flavors of cognac with the fragrant and floral lavender honey is a combination so brilliant, you’ll have a hard time putting your glass down. With only three ingredients and relatively simple measurements, this craft cocktail is actually easy to make. The weekend is a time for relaxing, so take a sip, close your eyes and imagine yourself in the midst of the beautiful Lavender fields of Provence.

Preparation Time: 5 mins

Ingredients for one serving

2 oz. Cognac
1 oz. lemon juice
3/4 oz. lavender honey
1 lavender sprig

  1. Combine Cognac, lemon juice and lavender honey in a pint glass.
  2. Fill with ice and stir well for 15 seconds.
  3. Strain and pour over ice into your favorite cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with a lavender sprig and enjoy.

Cheers!
